A girl of 14 committed suicide because she was taunted by bullies who called her a lesbian and laughed at her dress sense. Belinda Allen hanged herself from a tree using a scarf outside a social club after enduring more than a year of taunts.
Why.......just why?
We need to encourage kids in similar situations to know it's okay to tell someone when something like that is going on. I was tormented for not one but for 9 years as a child because of my lesbianism. I didn't hang myself mostly because I knew the taunting was just words. When I was thrown into the boys bathroom, I would threaten to go straight to their parents instead of the teachers first because I was in good graces with them. Adults, specifically teachers and parents need some training to identify these problems, too. Belinda's death was not worth it.
