The L Word Coming To A Close

Showtime has renewed The L Word for a sixth and final season, which will make it one of the premium network's longest-running series.

Creator/executive producer Ilene Chaiken, who created the series with Kathy Greenberg and Michele Abbott, said the show will live on, interactively.

"This is by no means the end of 'The L Word,"' she said. "The brand and the social network community, OurChart.com, will continue to live and be a destination for lesbians everywhere and a lasting tribute to what 'The L Word' has accomplished."

Today Page Six is reporting on a upcoming W magazine story about a Hollywood group of powerful lesbians aptly named the Rubyfruit Mafia

The Rubyfruit Mafia includes HBO's head of programming Carolyn Strauss, Movie producer Nina Jacobson, Fox 2000 executive v.p. of production Carla Hacken, Sundance Institute's Cynthia Wornham, and "The L Word" creator Ilene Chaiken

Movie producer Nina Jacobson said "It was certainly an acceptable choice to be closeted then (90's). Now, in Hollywood, it would be a little pathetic. You would only look afraid."
